• ·Below-the-zone is a one-time promotion consideration (para 2.3.1). A member who has been considered carries grade status reason 5Q and does not appear on a later roster (para 2.3.4).
• ·Units consider every member meeting the time-in-service and time-in-grade requirements, even if they are TDY, on leave, have had a permanent change of assignment, or have a report-not-later-than date on or after the first day of the first processing month (para 2.4.1).
• ·Quotas are 15 percent of the time-in-grade and time-in-service eligible population, counted regardless of normal promotion ineligibility conditions (para 2.3.5).
• ·The host wing or installation commander establishes the nomination method, number of nominations, timetable, board composition and scoring scale, so local dates differ from the quarterly cycle (para 2.3.1).
• ·If an Airman was not considered in the quarter they became eligible, the unit commander may request supplemental below-the-zone consideration before the next board convenes (para 2.5).
• ·A below-the-zone selectee removed from the selection list stays ineligible until they meet the fully qualified promotion requirements (Table 1.2, rule 8).
